Description - BARK
A typical late 18th century ship-rigged
merchantman. A Bark of this size was sea
going and used principally in North
European waters, but also for ocean voyages.
These vessels were designated by Chapman
as Bark, merchant vessels 5th Class. They
were sometimes armed and the model has
8 x 6 pdr mounted for protection. Crew varied
but not more than 40. Colour: Sides – natural
wood, Deck – scrubbed teak.
