Description - MERCHANT JUNK
Small Chinese trading Junk, known as a
Foochow Junk, widely used in the 19th and
20th Centuries in the coastal waters around
China, particularly at Foochow where the
trade from the River Min was loaded on to
Ocean going vessels. They were very
manoeuvrable under sail, hence were suitable
for use in the very crowded harbours without
the need for oars.
