CATAPULT ARMED MERCHANT SHIP
“Empire” Type war emergency freighter altered to
carry a Sea Hurricane on a catapult on the bow (in
addition to her normal cargo). The aircraft once used
could not be recovered at sea.. Empire Clive was a
Type Y war emergency freighter built in1941 by
Cammell Laird & Co and had a Gross Tonnage of
7,069 BRT. Other war emergency convsions to C.A.M. ships were
Empires Burton, Darwin, Day, Dell, Eve, Faith, Flame, Foam, Franklin,
Gale, Heath, Hudson, Lawrence, Moon, Morn, Ocean, Rainbow,
Ray, Shakleton, Spray, Spring, Stanley, Sun, Tide and Wave.
