Description - HANDLEY PAGE "HEYFORD" British Heavy Bomber first flew in 1930 and went into squadron service in 1933. The aircraft is unusual in that the fuselage in attached to the upper wing, rather than the lower wing. This was designed to assist in rearming the aircraft, which carried it’s bomb load internally in the lower central section. The Heyfords remained in front line squadron service until 1939 when the were replaced by the Wellington. In the early years of W.W.2 the continued to serve on ancillary duties. Maximum Speed 142 mph, Maximum Range 920 miles. Armament – 3 Lewis Guns Maximum Bomb Load 3,500 lb., but only 2,800 lb. usually carried.
