Description - VICKERS VIRGINIA Mk X
British Heavy Bomber, the Virginia was first
flown in 1922 as a replacement for the Vickers Vimy. From 1924 to 1937 the Virginia was the mainstay of the RAF heavy night bomber force.
A total of 126 were built in all, of which 53
were the Mk X version, which had an all metal framework, rather than the wood frame of
earlier models.
On withdrawal from line duties, Virginia’s continued to serve in Parachute training units
in the early part of the Second World War.
