Description - BA306 WESTLAND "WAPITI" British 2 seat general purpose bi-plane designed in 1926 to replace the D.H.9. The prototype first flew in 1927 and when production ended in 1932 517 had been built for the RAF. 27 more were built in South Africa for the SAAF, and other operators included the RAAF, RCAF and Chinese Air Force. Wapiti’s saw extensive service in Iraq and India. In 1939 at the outbreak of war, 3 squadrons remained in India, and others still served with the South Africans & Canadians. Maximum Speed 135 mph, Cruising Speed 110 mph. Maximum Range 360 miles. Armament – one forward firing 0.303” machine gun and one Lewis gun in the rear cockpit. Bomb Load – 580lb.
